Leaders in Healthcare Gather at the Asia Summit on Global Health
HONG KONG, Nov 11, 2022 - (ACN Newswire) - New research and developments from Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) are giving the local and international healthcare and medical sectors a boost and opening new prospects, according to the two-day Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH). Today marked the successful conclusion of the second ASGH and the physical portion of the 13th annual HKTDC Hong Kong International Healthcare Fair.
To help participants take advantage of business opportunities, more than 280 one-on-one Deal Flow Matchmaking sessions and 600 business meetings have been scheduled. International Healthcare Week will grow in May 2023, according to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
The ASGH is jointly organized by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the HKTDC to support industry networking, foster business opportunities, and highlight the advantages of Hong Kong's healthcare and medical sectors in terms of scientific research, investment, financing, and trading platforms. The challenges posed by Ebola and COVID-19 are among the subjects discussed, as is the development of healthcare in Mainland China. Participants also received updates on the use of robotics and the ethics of artificial intelligence.
Prof. Piot stated: "COVID has definitely been a wake-up call to the importance of developing a sustainable and equitable healthcare system. The reality is that we are very likely entering an era of pandemics, and we must be better prepared. We also must help the least developed countries, such as [those in] Africa and Southeast Asia, in manufacturing vaccines and other essential medications and developing the infrastructure they need to be ready for the next pandemic”.
On the first day of the Summit, Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau stated during a panel discussion titled "The Next Development of China's Healthcare Sector" that China had made remarkable progress in healthcare, particularly in transitioning from treatment-oriented and hospital-based services to community-based services. The panel was chaired by Dr Donald Li, Chairman of the Elderly Commission, who stated that the high demand for healthcare services in the GBA has created many new opportunities for business and healthcare professionals.
During a panel discussion titled "How Innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Area Reshapes Global Healthcare," speakers shared that the GBA, specifically Shenzhen, would be a new base for innovation and research amid the city's boom in university lab research.
The hybrid InnoHealth Showcase and exhibition area featured over 180 projects and solutions from healthcare-related innovative technology enterprises, connecting them with investors all over the world, as well as potential business partners A number of biotechnology and healthcare start-ups also took advantage of the Business of Healthcare Advisory Zone, receiving comprehensive professional advice from investors and industry experts.
PanopticAI is one of the winners of HKTDC's Start-up Express 2021. The company uses patented AI and algorithm to instantly obtain health data from subjects through ordinary lenses. They signed an MOU with Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong on the first day of the Summit.
The HKTDC's new EXHIBITION+ hybrid model was used for the 13th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair. More than 300 exhibitors from various countries and regions participated in the fair. The Click2Match platform, which provides smart business matching, will be available until November 18th.
The Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association is a co-organizer of the Medical Fair (HKMHDIA). More than ten informative events were held, with industry professionals eager to attend. To find potential suppliers of aged care equipment and training solutions, HKTDC's Click2Match smart business matching service was used.
The Royal Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce and Industry's annual conference and the 27th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Hong Kong Urological Association were among the events that marked the beginning of the first International Healthcare Week (iHealthWeek) in Hong Kong.
